Oil Kings Add 11 Prospects at 2022 WHL Prospects Draft

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings made 11 selections and one trade during the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft on Thursday.

TRADE - Edmonton and Seattle

EDM Acquired - 2022 4th round pick (via REG)

SEA Acquired - 2023 4th round pick (via KEL) and 2022 7th round pick

The Oil Kings wrapped up the draft with 11 new players added to their prospect pool; eight forwards, two defencemen and one goaltender.

THIRD ROUND - Presley Kerner

With the 65th overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted right-winger Presley Kerner.

The 6-foot-1, 160-pound Kelowna, BC product registered 40 points (16G, 24A) in 27 games with the OHA U15 Prep team in the Kelowna, BC.

FOURTH ROUND - Luke Powell

With the 75th overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted left-winger Luke Powell.

The 5-foot-5, 130-pound local product spent last season playing with the SSAC Lions U15 AAA squad where he racked up 56 points (33G, 23A) in only 34 games. He finished third in the U15 AEHL in goals and sixth in points.

Powell was named a second-team All-Star for the AEHL and was also a tournament All-Star at the annual John Reid Memorial Tournament.

FIFTH ROUND - Eliot Compton

With the 109th overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted right-winger Eliot Compton.

The 6-foot-1, 155-pound Victoria, BC native played with the Shawnigan Lake School U15 Prep team where in 30 games he put up 49 points (22G, 27A) to finishing inside the Top 20 in U15 CSSHL scoring.

SIXTH ROUND - Caleb Gartner

With the 131st overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted defenceman Caleb Gartner.

The 6-foot-1, 153-pound Calgary, AB product spent last season playing with the U15 AAA Calgary Flames where he appeared in 24 games and tallied 11 points (3G, 8A).

SEVENTH ROUND - Coltan White

With the 151st overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted left-winger Coltan White.

The 6-foot, 167-pound Surrey, BC product played with the Valley West Giants U15 AAA program last year and averaged over two points per-game after notching 62 points (25G, 37A) in just 30 games.

He finished the U15 BCEHL season third in points and second in assists.

This pick was acquired by the Oil Kings from the Kamloops Blazers on January 8 in exchange for Kobe Verbicky.

EIGHTH ROUND - Jordan Ramsay

With the 175th overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted forward Jordan Ramsay.

The 5-foot-9, 133-pound Victoria, BC native played 27 games this past year with the Pacific Coast Academy U15 Prep team where he amassed 43 points (19G, 24A).

NINTH ROUND - Elijah Henson

With the 197th overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted goaltender Elijah Henson.

The 6-foot-4, 164-pound West Kelowna, BC product played last season with the Okanagan Rockets U15 AAA program where he went 13-4-0 with a 2.75 goals-against average.

TENTH ROUND - Jager Gugyelka

With the 219th overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted defenceman Jager Gugyelka.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Coaldale, AB product played 32 games with the Lethbridge Golden Hawks U15 AAA program last season where he racked up 25 points (8G, 17A) finishing eighth in defenceman scoring in the entire U15 AEHL.

ELEVENTH ROUND - Owen Mastroianni

With the 241st overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted left-winger Owen Mastroianni.

The 5-foot-3, 125-pound Golden, BC native played with the Edge School U15 Prep team last year where he appeared in 30 games and registered 31 points (11G, 20A).

TWELFTH ROUND - Jack Toogood

With the 263rd overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted forward Jack Toogood.

The 5-foot-10, 162-pound Devon, AB product played last season the U15 Northern Alberta Xtreme Prep where he tallied 26 points (13G, 13A) in 30 games.

THIRTEENTH ROUND - Ashton Lee

With the 285th overall selection, the Oil Kings drafted centermen Ashton Lee.

The 5-foot-8, 134-pound Edmonton, AB product played last season with the Saints Pro Hockey Academy U15 Prep squad where he put up 62 points (28G, 34A) in 33 games, finishing fourth in league scoring.
