Great Lakes Loons News Release

EASTLAKE, Ohio - A rare Sunday night game at Classic Park knocked the Loons' offense out of rhythm in a 1-0 loss to the Lake County Captains.

Great Lakes entered play averaging 13 hits and over seven runs per game through the first four games of its road swing. On Sunday, Lake County muffled the Loons to three hits, plus four walks and a hit batter.

Southpaw Francisco Perez (W, 8-7) led the charge and tossed six one-hit innings with two walks and six strikeouts against the Loons. Perez has allowed two runs and four hits in 12 innings against the Loons this season.

Lake County's offense did not tear the cover off the ball, either. While Loons' starter Alfredo Tavarez (L, 1-4) battled his command - he walked five batters and threw 44 of 85 pitches for strikes - the only run of the game scored on an error in the fifth inning.

Pitching with one out and a man on second, Tavarez correctly sensed the runner, Will Benson, break for third. Tavarez stepped off the hill, but threw errantly to third, and the error on the pitcher allowed Benson to score an unearned run.

Despite the lack of offense, the Loons had chances to tie the game; they loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh inning, but Loons' newcomer Chris Stroller struck out. In the ninth inning, Luke Heyer reached on a wild pitch with two outs, and shifted to second on a single to right by Hunter Feduccia. A fly ball to middle depth in right off the bat of Josh McLain ended the game.

One more win will secure a winning road trip for the Loons, who next take the field Monday at 7 p.m. EDT against Lake County at Classic Park.

The Great Lakes Loons have been the Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007. Dow Diamond serves as the team's home and also houses the Michigan Baseball Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, and ESPN 100.9-FM.
