Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Lansing Lugnuts (affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays) in the second game of a four-game series.

Season Series: Lansing 10, Dayton 2. At Dayton: Dayton 2, Lansing 2. Current Series: Lansing 1, Dayton 0.

Last Game: Saturday: Lansing 5, Dayton 4. The Dragons battled back after falling behind 4-0 in the second inning to eventually tie the game at 4-4, but Lansing broke the tie with a run in the eighth to win. The tie-breaking run came on an unusual play in the batter raced around to score without the ball the leaving the infield, reaching on a bunt single and advancing on two Dayton errors. Hendrik Clementina and Raul Wallace each hit solo home runs for Dayton.

Playoff Chase: The Dragons must finish in the top two among eligible teams in the East Division in the Second Half (six teams competing; Bowling Green and Lansing ineligible). The Dragons currently are the wildcard leader (#2 seed) in the Second Half race, one-half game ahead of Lake County and Fort Wayne. The top four teams in the Second Half race are separated by just one-half game.

2018 Team Notes

Saturday night's game was the 1,300th consecutive sold-out date for the Dayton Dragons.

The Dragons have hit five home runs in their last two games after hitting six homers in the previous 20 games.

The Dragons 3.49 ERA in the month of July is considerably better than the MWL average for the full season (3.85), but in an indication that July has been a good month for pitchers throughout the league, the Dragons July ERA ranks 10th among the 16 MWL teams.

The Dragons have allowed three runs or less in 18 of their 35 second half games. Their second half ERA is 3.75 (5.31 in the first half).

2018 Individual Notes

Hunter Greene over his last 11 starts: 51.1 IP, 36 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 13 BB, 63 SO, 2.63 ERA. Greene has made 18 starts. His ERA in his first seven starts was 10.06. Greene was selected as the Cincinnati Reds Minor League Co-Pitcher of the Month for June.

Patrick McGuff in his three starts with the Dragons: 15 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 13 SO, 1.80 ERA (2 of the 3 earned runs were inherited runners).

Lorenzo Cedrola over his last 18 games: 23 for 68, .338. Cedrola has stolen 12 bases since joining the Dragons on July 4.

Alejo Lopez over his last 12 games: 13 for 37, .351.

Jeter Downs has hit safely in seven straight games, going 8 for 26, .308.

New Faces in New Places: Reshard Munroe made his first career appearance at first base on Saturday night after 108 career games in the outfield. J.D. Williams got his first start at second base (or any infield position) on Wednesday night since July 22, 2016 with the AZL Reds. He made 10 starts at second base during the 2015-16 seasons. He played four innings at second base in 2017 with Billings, but did not have a defensive chance.
