Lansing Lugnuts News Release
DAYTON, OH - Mac Sceroler pitched six scoreless innings and the hit-happy Dayton Dragons (18-18, 49-55) dealt the Lansing Lugnuts (17-19, 60-46) an 8-2 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field.
Four different Dayton Dragons - Jose Garcia, Alejo Lopez, J.D. Wiliams and Raul Wallace - enjoyed three-hit performances, helping Dayton piled up 16 total base hits.
Sceroler (Win, 2-2) struck out six batters in his return to the Midwest League following a stint with Short-Season Billings, limiting the Lugnuts to a fifth-inning Jesus Navarro single and a sixth-inning Chavez Young single.
Lansing starter Jordan Barrett (Loss, 1-2) did not fare as well, allowing nine hits and four runs in 3 1/3. Brayden Bouchey followed Barrett to the mound with 1 2/3 innings of hitless ball, striking out four, hitting two batters and walking one.
The Dragons added two runs in the sixth and seventh against reliever Emerson Jimenez before Orlando Pascual came out of the pen to work 1 1/3 perfect innings.
The Lugnuts scored their only runs in the seventh, with Samad Taylor drawing a bases-loaded walk from former Michigan Wolverine Ryan Nutof, and Chavez Young following with an RBI walk against Miguel Aguilar.
Aguilar recovered to record the final seven outs for his first save of the year.
19-year-old right-hander Maximo Castillo (5.46 ERA) starts the third game of the four-game set at 7:00 p.m. Monday, facing Dragons right-hander Patrick McGuff (1.80).
The Nuts return home to Cooley Law School Stadium from August 1st-3rd, welcoming in these same South Bend Cubs for a brief homestand: Wednesday, August 1st, is a Winning Wednesday; Thursday, August 2nd, is a Labatt Thirsty Thursday - Young Professionals Night; and Friday, August 3rd, is a Family Faith Night with postgame LAFCU Fireworks.
