Dayton, Ohio - Dayton starting pitcher Mac Sceroler (suh-ROLL-er) allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings as the Dragons defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 8-2 on Sunday afternoon. A crowd of 7,725 was in attendance at Fifth Third Field.

Sceroler, who began the season with the Dragons but made only four starts in April, returned with a dominant performance. He did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and struck out six while walking two. Sceroler retired 13 straight Lansing batters over one stretch and earned the win to improve to 2-2 with the Dragons. Sceroler also made seven starts at Billings, going 2-2 with the Mustangs.

The Dragons collected 16 hits in the game, including three hits apiece for Jose Garcia, Alejo Lopez, J.D. Williams, and Raul Wallace. Lorenzo Cedrola added two more.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Williams tripled and scored on Wallace's infield single. Cedrola added a two-run single in the third to make it 3-0, and Lopez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth to force in a run and give the Dragons a 4-0 lead. In the sixth, Lopez lined an RBI double to left-center to bring in one run, and two batters later, Hendrik Clementina doubled to drive in Lopez and make it 6-0.

Sceroler was replaced by Ryan Nutof to start the seventh inning, and Nutof struggled to throw strikes. He gave up a hit and walked three including one that forced in the first Lansing run of the day. Nutof was replaced by Miguel Aguilar with the bases loaded and two outs, and Aguilar walked the first batter he faced to force in the second run of the inning before Ryan Noda lined out hard to second base to end the inning.

The Dragons responded with a two-run single from Garcia in the bottom of the seventh to make it 8-2 and close out the scoring. Aguilar was credited with a save, working the final two and one-third innings and allowing one hit but no runs.

In the Standings: The Dragons improved to 18-18 in the second half with the win. They lead the Midwest League's East Division Second Half playoff race, one game ahead of both South Bend and Lake County. Lansing fell to 17-19.
