CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - Parker Mushinski, Luis Garcia, and Tanner Duncan combined for a 6-0 Quad Cities River Bandits shutout Sunday against the Cedar Rapids Kernels in front of 3,028 fans at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Kernels (25-11, 57-48) received a near-season-high 10 walks but were held to two hits and no runs versus Quad Cities (19-16, 59-46).

The River Bandits secured a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning. Marty Costes and Seth Beer opened with back-to-back singles before scoring on Colton Shaver's two-run triple. Alfredo Angarita added a one-out double that drove in Shaver, and Ruben Castro produced a two-out single that plated Angarita.

Mushinski worked around a career-high six walks to get through the first four innings of Quad Cities' combined shutout. He walked the bases loaded during the bottom of the first but induced an inning-ending force out. 41 of Mushinski's 75 pitches were balls.

Garcia (3-2) picked up the victory in relief while Duncan finished the contest with a perfect ninth inning. Garcia did not allow any runners to reach third base over four shutout innings pitched. Duncan went 1-2-3 in the final frame including a strikeout of Akil Baddoo to end the contest.

Insurance runs in the sixth and eighth innings pushed the River Bandits to their winning margin of 6-0. Angarita hit a leadoff triple during the sixth and scored on a sacrifice fly from Castro. Shaver singled and later scored within the eighth inning.

Jordan Balazovic (5-2) gave up the first five runs and took the loss. He notched a game-high seven strikeouts over six innings of work.

This four-game home-and-home swing continues at 6:35 p.m. Monday in Davenport, Iowa. Right-hander Jhoan Durán, who went 5-4 with a 4.73 ERA with the Kane County Cougars, will make his Kernels debut against River Bandits right-hander Cesar Rosado (4-2, 4.16). Chris Kleinhans-Schulz will call the action on 1450 KMRY AM and 93.1 KMRY FM and also online at www.kmryradio.com and www.kernels.com.
