Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings saw their losing streak grow to six games with a 12-3 loss to the Peoria Chiefs on Sunday afternoon at Ashford University Field. The Chiefs (22-12, 61-43) registered 17 hits against LumberKings (17-18, 56-49) pitching including four doubles from Elehuris Montero.
For the second game in a row Yariel Gonzalez started the scoring with a home run. Following a two-run homer in the series opener innings, Gonzalez did one better with a three-run homer in the top of the first off Clinton starter Randy Bell.
Bell (2-4) took the loss for Clinton for a six-inning outing in which he allowed seven runs, five earned, on a season-high 11 hits while walking one and striking out one.
Following Bells six inning outing, the Chiefs added on against the LumberKings bullpen. Peoria tacked two runs in the seventh inning before adding three more runs in the top of the eighth with Montero's fourth double of the afternoon capping the scoring.
Johan Oviedo started for Peoria and earned his seventh win of the season for five innings of work. The LumberKings scored all three of their runs against Oviedo (7-7) but could not match the avalanche of offense from the Chiefs.
In the bottom of the second, Clinton pushed across their first run of the game on a Rainis Silva sacrifice fly to right. Johnny Adams drove home the second run of the game for Clinton in the fourth with an RBI single and Joseph Rosa's leadoff triple in the fifth turned into a run after a Keegan McGovern RBI single to center.
Over the finale four innings Zach Pendergast and Kodi Whitley combined to shutout the LumberKings who took their sixth straight loss. The six-game skid is tied for the second longest LumberKings losing streak of the season.
