Offense Rises In Trouncing Of Oklahoma City

June 1, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY - Fresno starter Asher Wojciechowski brings out the best in the Grizzlies' offense. In his four starts entering tonight, they scored an average of 10.0 runs per game and tonight they continued that trend. On the strength of Alex Presley's franchise record six-hit game, the Fresno Grizzlies (29-22) walloped the Oklahoma City Dodgers (34-16) by the score of 14-1 Monday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The win gives Fresno a series split with the best team in the Pacific Coast League as they move onto the second leg of their eight-game road trip tomorrow night in Colorado Springs.

Dating back to club's inaugural season in 1998, no player had ever recorded more than five hits in a single game until Presley lined his sixth hit over the head of the third baseman in the seventh inning. The historic night for the 29-year-old outfielder included a double in the first, an RBI double in the second, an RBI double and a single in the fourth, a three-run homer (1) in the sixth, and a single in the seventh. He had an opportunity for a seventh hit in the ninth, but flew out to center on the first pitch he saw.

Wojciechowski collected his fourth win of the season and is now unbeaten in his last nine Triple-A starts dating back to last August. He surrendered an unearned run in the first, which tied the game at 1-1, but kept Oklahoma City scoreless over the next seven frames. Reliever Jonas Dufek, activated from the disabled list today, threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Grizzlies scored one run in the first and second, and then exploded for a season-high nine runs in the fourth. Fresno sent 13 men to the plate and collected four walks and seven hits, including a grand slam from Nolan Fontana. The homer by the infielder was only his second on the year and first since the second game of the season on April 10th at Chukchansi Park. The nine runs in an inning were the most by a Fresno team since July 1, 2013 at Las Vegas when they also put together a nine run frame.

Overall, six players recorded multiHIT efforts and the entire lineup with the exception of Presley drew a walk.

The 13-run winning margin is the largest by Fresno over Oklahoma City in the 18-year history between the two clubs.

The Grizzlies will remain in OKC tonight and fly to Colorado Springs Tuesday morning to begin a four-game series with the Sky Sox. Taking the ball for Fresno in game one of the series will be left-hander Luis Cruz (1-2, 4.76). Colorado Springs counters with righty Taylor Jungmann (2-2, 6.49), who allowed three runs over seven innings in a victory over Las Vegas in his last outing.
