Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY (June 1, 2015) - For the ninth consecutive year, the Salt Lake Bees are in the top 25 of Minor League Baseball merchandise sales of apparel, headwear and novelties, according to data released by Minor League Baseball (MiLB) this week.
The Bees have made the top 25 list every year since 2006 when the club changed its name from the Salt Lake Stingers to the Salt Lake Bees. Only 11 of the 160 teams in MiLB have appeared in the top 25 every year since 2006.
Fanzz Sports Stores, the official team store of the Salt Lake Bees, operates as the top-selling Bees brand provider with merchandise available at Smith's Ballpark as well as locations throughout Salt Lake City and online at www.fanzz.com.
"Baseball is a long-time summer tradition in Salt Lake City, and we appreciate the support we have received from the community," said Bees General Manager Marc Amicone. "It is great to see fans wearing the Bees gear, enjoying a nacho dog, and watching the Angels' top prospects at our beautiful ballpark."
The top 25 for MiLB merchandise sales in 2014 are (listed alphabetically): Akron RubberDucks, Albuquerque Isotopes, Birmingham Barons, Carolina Mudcats, Charlotte Knights, Columbus Clippers, Corpus Christi Hooks, Dayton Dragons, Durham Bulls, El Paso Chihuahuas, Fort Wayne TinCaps, Indianapolis Indians, Lake Elsinore Storm, Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Louisville Bats, Quad Cities River Bandits, Portland Sea Dogs, Reno Aces, Richmond Flying Squirrels, Rochester Red Wings, Sacramento River Cats, Salt Lake Bees, Toledo Mud Hens, Trenton Thunder and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Individual rankings and team-specific sales data were not made publically available.
Collectively, MiLB sold an all-time high of $60.3 million in merchandise in 2014, up nine percent from the 2013 number of $55.4 million. The total eclipsed the previous all-time high of $60 million generated in 1994. MiLB merchandise sales have increased each of the last five years.
The Bees return home to Smith's Ballpark on Saturday, June 6, for eight games against the Albuquerque Isotopes and Fresno Grizzlies through Sunday, June 14. The homestand features a Kole Calhoun bobblehead giveaway on June 6, Green Night on June 8, Bee Healthy Week from June 11-13, and a postgame fireworks show on June 13. Tickets and additional information about the team is available on www.slbees.com.
