Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., - Cheslor Cuthbert hit a solo homer in the ninth, breaking up a 1-1 tie and earning the Omaha Storm Chasers (26-26) a series split with a Albuquerque Isotopes (21-31) in a 2-1 series finale win. The Storm Chasers survived a bases loaded, no outs situation in the bottom of the ninth to lock up the win.
The Cuthbert homer made a winner out of the deserving John Lamb, who allowed just one unearned run in his eight innings of work. It was the longest outing in Lamb's career, as well as the longest outing for any Storm Chasers pitcher this season. The victory was the left-hander's sixth of the season, and he is one of only three pitchers in the Pacific Coast League that has six wins already this season. Omaha has only lost one of Lamb's eight starts in 2015.
Omaha fell behind 1-0 as Albuquerque plated the first run of the game in the fourth, scoring on a two-out error by Storm Chasers shortstop Dusty Coleman. The Storm Chasers tied it up at 1-1 in the seventh as Francisco Pena knocked in a run, his seventh RBI in his last six starts. The solo blast for Cuthbert gave Omaha their second comeback win in as many days, and was only his second homer since the start of May. Cuthbert is one of two Storm Chasers with six or more homers, trailing team leader Brett Eibner.
Jose Martinez scored the first run of the game and notched another multi-hit day, and the outfielder leads the PCL with a .393 average (35-for-89) since the start of May. The Storm Chasers only have three wins in their last 13 road games, and all three have come by a 2-1 margin.
Omaha now travels to El Paso for their first ever series at Southwest University Park, with RHP Andy Ferguson (1-1, 3.94 ERA) facing off with Chihuahuas LHP Jason Lane (3-4, 3.92 ERA). First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. CDT.
