Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

2015 Boston Marathon Winner and New Mexico resident Caroline Rotich is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at the Albuquerque Isotopes game this Friday, June 5. The Isotopes will host the Iowa Cubs at 7:05 p.m. She will also sign autographs for fans during the game.

Rotich took the tape at the 2015 Boston Marathon with a time of 2:24:55, just four seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Rotich was one of three runners still in the hunt coming down the homestretch, but her late sprint gave her the edge.

2015 marked Rotich's third attempt at the Boston Marathon, finishing fourth in 2011 and withdrawing in 2012. Her victories include the Las Vegas Marathon, Boston Half Marathon, New York Half Marathon and the Prague Marathon.

Rotich has lived and trained in Santa Fe for the last five years and even frequently runs the bosque in Albuquerque. She trains with Ryan Bolton's Harambee Running Club. Originally from Nyahururu, Kenya, Rotich attended Sendai Ikuei Gakuen High School in Japan, an institution known for long-distance running.

The first 3,000 fans to Friday's game will also receive Orbit snow globes courtesy of AARP.
