Altoona Curve News Release

RICHMOND, Va. - The Curve received a strong performance from their starter for a second-straight day but once again the Squirrels had just enough offense to scratch out a win, defeating the Curve, 3-1, in the series finale on Sunday at The Diamond. Altoona put men on the bases in the finale but went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranded a total of 10 baserunners.

The Squirrels jumped on the scoreboard first in the second off Aaron Pribanic (0-2) when Wes Hodges came through with an RBI groundout. Chris Dominguez and Juan Perez both singled before Daniel Mayora bunted them to third and second, respectively, with his sacrifice. Hodges followed Mayora with his RBI groundout and Richmond had the first lead of the contest.

Richmond put its second tally on the scoreboard off Pribanic in the fifth when a leadoff walk of Ryan Cavan led to a two-out RBI hit from Ehire Adrianza that put the Squirrels up 2-0. Pribanic pitched well on the day, finishing five innings and allowing just the two runs on four hits.

It took six plus innings for the Curve to crack the scoreboard on Sunday afternoon as they scored their first run in the seventh. Quincy Latimore led off the inning with a hit off reliever Ari Ronick and two batters later Adalberto Santos delivered a pinch-hit single to put the tying run on with one down. Ronick was removed in favor of lefty Tom Vessella, who subsequently walked Robbie Grossman to load the bases with one out.

Brock Holt came to the plate with the bases loaded against Vessella and grounded into a fielder's choice, beating out the back end of a double play to keep the inning going. Latimore scored from third on the play and the deficit had been cut to one.

A big insurance run came across for the Squirrels in the last of the eighth off reliever Kyle Cofield. Dominguez drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a wild pitch by Cofield. With two down, Mayora delivered a hit inside the bag at third that scored Dominguez from second and Richmond regained its two-run advantage at 3-1.

The Curve were retired in order in the ninth by Brett Bochy, the son of San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy, who picked up his first save in Richmond's win.

Altoona (4-5) now travels to the capital of the commonwealth to take on the Harrisburg Senators (7-4) in the first of three games at Metro Bank Park on Monday beginning at 7 p.m. LHP Aaron Poreda (1-0, 0.00) makes the start for the Curve in the series opener and looks to make it two straight to start the season. The Senators counter with RHP Paul Demny (0-0, 4.15) in the lid lifter.

Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. For tickets and more information on the Curve's upcoming homestand beginning this Thursday, April 19th, call 877.99.CURVE, visit www.AltoonaCurve.com or stop by the box office at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
