Akron RubberDucks News Release
AKRON, OH- The Akron Aeros (6-3) were unable to complete the four-game sweep Sunday afternoon over the Trenton Thunder (4-6), losing 2-1 before 1,714 fans at Canal Park.
The Trenton Thunder took the first lead of the game for the second straight day, this time in the second inning. Cody Johnson connected on solo home run to right field, making it 1-0 Trenton. The ensuing hitter, Melky Mesa, reached base on a double to left, and was brought home on a Jose Gil single to center field to give Trenton a two-run lead. The Aeros would get one of those runs back in the fourth's bottom frame. Jared Goedert led off with a double to center. After the next two hitters were retired, Ryan Rohlinger singled to center, plating Goedert, and Rohlinger was able to advance to second on the throw home from Mesa. The Aeros threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth but left the bases loaded after Trenton reliever Lee Hyde forced Nick Weglarz to pop out to third.
Eric Berger (0-2), bounced back from a rough 2012 debut, pitching five innings, allowing two runs (one home run), five hits and striking out four in the loss. Rob Bryson took over in the sixth inning, going two innings, walking two and striking out a pair. Matt Langwell came in the top of the eighth and threw the final two innings, yielding two base hits.
