New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - On a warm and sunny afternoon, a record April crowd of 7,681 filled the stands at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Sunday. The new record gathering, surpassing the previous high of 7,065 from April 7, 2005, watched the Fisher Cats (3-8) drop a tight pitcher's duel to the New Britain Rock Cats (8-3) in the finale of a four-game series.
Bolstered by sunny skies and temps in the 70s, Sunday's crowd featured the first batch of students who met Fungo's challenge to read five extra-curricular books in the CCSNH Reading Challenge. The success of the program enhanced an already boisterous group of fans, particularly young fans who ran the bases after the game courtesy of the Buyers Beware Program.
On the field, the tight contest remained scoreless as Drew Hutchison (L; 2-1) and Luke French matched zeros until the Rock Cats scratched out a single run in the top of the fourth inning. A solo home run in the sixth knocked Hutchison out of the game, leaving him with his first Double-A loss in six starts in the Eastern League.
Hutchison allowed two earned runs over 5.2 innings, striking out six. He was bested by the former big leaguer French, who pitched seven scoreless on just two hits and three walks. A third New Britain scored in the seventh against relief pitcher Fernando Hernandez.
The Fisher Cats managed a season-low three hits - a pair of singles by John Tolisano and a base hit from Mike McDade. Brad Glenn went 0-4 and saw the end of his team-best seven-game hitting streak.
The Fisher Cats have now lost five in a row as they get ready to host the Binghamton Mets on Monday night at 6:35 PM. Warm weather is forecast for the series opener as fans can play USA Subs Baseball Bingo and win free prizes throughout the game. Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com, by calling 603-641-2005, and at the Northeast Delta Dental Box Office.
RHP Ryan Tepera (0-0, 5.14) makes his first home start against Binghamton LHP Mark Cohoon (0-1, 3.60). You can follow the action with Tom Gauthier and Dick Lutsk beginning at 6:15 PM on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
