Binghamton Earns Series Split in Blowout, 9-2

PORTLAND, ME - The Bighamton Mets set season-highs with nine runs on fifteen hits and earned a four-game series split in a 9-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs this Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. B-Mets starter Greg Peavey fired five scoreless innings to earn his second win.

The B-Mets bats were alive in the first against Portland starter Chris Balcom-Miller. Matt den Dekker started the attack with his first home run of the season, a rocket off the batter's eye in centerfield. Juan Lagares followed with a walk and put himself in scoring position by stealing second, his third stolen base of the year. The move paid immediate dividends when Jefry Marte singled him home.

An error by Ryan Dent at second prolonged the inning and Josh Rodriguez made Portland pay by lining an RBI single to left.

The B-Mets tacked on two more runs in the second. Juan Centeno and Sean Kazmar began the rally with a pair of singles. A walk issued to Lagares started a parade around the bases for the B-Mets. Balcom-Miller's day ended after he walked Eric Campbell to force home a run. Michael Lee entered and walked the first man he faced in Oswaldo Navarro to kick Binghamton's lead to five runs.

Given a comfortable lead, Greg Peavey navigated to his second win of his Double-A career. The right-hander from Vancouver, Washington tossed five shutout innings and has not allowed a run in the first 10.2 innings with the B-Mets. He allowed four hits, struck out four and issued one walk. In his final inning, he allowed a pair singles but retired the final three Sea Dogs to put up a scoreless frame.

Binghamton added to their lead with a run on Heiker Meneses' throwing error in the fifth and Navarro's solo home run over the "Maine Monster" in the seventh. Travis Ozga lined a two-run homer to right in the ninth. It was his first home run since August 2010 when he was a member of the Savannah Sand Gnats.

B-Mets reliever Armando Rodriguez took over in the sixth and cruised through three innings. The right-hander faced one over the minimum, striking out five along the way. The Sea Dogs finally cracked the scoreboard by plating two runs on four hits against Erik Turgeon. The righty was replaced by Josh Edgin who retired the only batter he faced to lock down Binghamton's fourth win of the year. Balcom-Miller suffered his first loss.

The B-Mets (4-5) ship off to New Hampshire to kick off a three-game series against the Fisher Cats starting tomorrow night at 6:35 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon will take the ball for Binghamton and face off against RHP Ryan Tepera for the defending Eastern League champions. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
