Asheville Tourists News Release

Greensboro, NC--Asheville Tourists Manager Fred Ocasio notched his 400th career victory on Sunday night as the Tourists defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws 8-3 at First Energy Park. Ocasio recorded 264 wins through seven campaigns at Short-Season Tri-City. In his first year in Asheville, 2013, the skipper led the Tourists to 63 wins and Sunday night's victory was Asheville's 73rd this year.

Despite falling behind 2-0 after the BlueClaws plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, Asheville never wavered. The Tourists responded with three runs in the top of the second.

Wilfredo Rodriguez laced a two-run single to left field and Emerson Jimenez put Asheville in front with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Lakewood knotted the score with a run in the bottom of the fourth and the score remained tied until the top of the seventh. With a runner at first and one out, Alec Mehrten hit a groundball to third. Mitch Walding fired it to second but Drew Stankiewicz dropped the ball resulting in an error. The Tourists took full advantage.

Raimel Tapia immediately clubbed a two-run double to put the Tourists in front 5-3. Zach Osborne followed with an RBI single to center to make it 6-3. Ryan McMahon then doubled Osborne to third and both runners scored on Correlle Prime's double down the left field line.

Trent Daniel, Trent Blank, and Jefri Hernandez combined to toss 3.1 scoreless innings in relief of Konner Wade. Asheville's starter lasted 5.2 frames and did not factor in the decision.

The Tourists are 19-2 in their last 21 road games and 3-2 on the current seven-game road swing.

Asheville and Lakewood are back in action on Monday night at 7:05pm.
