2nd Half Game #43 (110 of 137)

LH Chris Freudenberg (0-0, 0.00) vs. LH Christian Jones (4-6, 2.89)

. Today's Preview: Lefty Chris Freudenberg makes his Class A debut for the Intimidators (A, White Sox) in the final game of this 4-game series against the GreenJackets (A, Giants). Freudenberg, who opened 2014 with Great Falls, will try to pitch Kannapolis to a series split after Augusta took a 2-games-to-1 series lead with a 5-2 win on Saturday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The GreenJackets will counter with their own left-handed hurler in Christian Jones. With today being the final meeting between the Intimidators and GreenJackets, Augusta has already clinched the season-series, leading 4-2.

Sally League Standings: Kannapolis (22-20) fell to 5.0 games out of first place for the first time in the In Second Half but remains fourth in the 7-team Northern Division. Augusta (20-22) remains in fourth in the Southern Division, improving by a game to 10.5 games out of first place.

Intimidators Starter: Chris Freudenberg, 21, makes his first start with the Intimidators and his 10th start of the season. The left-hander was promoted from Advanced Rookie Great Falls to Kannapolis on Friday after going 3-3 with a 3.17 ERA (17 ER/481. IP) in nine games (nine starts) for Great Falls. He is in his second season with the White Sox after being drafted in the eighth round of the June 2013 First-Year Player Draft after graduating from South Mountain Community College in Phoenix. Last season with Advanced Rookie Bristol, Freudenberg went 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA in nine games (six starts) in the Appalachian League. He graduated from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 2011.

Augusta's Arm: Christian Jones, 23, makes his 18th start of the season and first against Kannapolis. The Danville, Calif., native is coming off 4.0 scoreless innings in a no decision against Greensboro on July 27 - his half-birthday. Jones has been relatively consistent for most of the season, but his July ERA of 3.74 is the highest of any month during his 2014 campaign, boosted by a rough outing at Greenville on July 13 in which Jones allowed eight runs on 10 hits over 4.1 innings. He has twice worked into the eighth inning this season, most recently in his last win, spinning 7.1 innings on July 1 at Rome. He is holding left-handed hitters to a .183 average and right-handers are batting .237 against him. This is Jones' first season as a starter. He made his professional debut in 2013, going 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 15 games out of the bullpen between the AZL Giants and Short-Season Salem-Keizer. The Giants selected Jones in the 18th round in the June 2013 draft out of the University of Oregon.

About Last Night: The GreenJackets used a 3-run fourth to take the lead in a 5-2 win over Kannapolis on Saturday. Tyler Ross put Augusta on the board first with a 2-out home run (5) in the first inning, but Trey Michalczewski pulled Kannapolis ahead in the bottom of the third with a 2-out, 2-run double to the gap in left-centerfield. The GreenJackets didn't stay behind for long, using three doubles in the top of the fourth for a 3-run frame to jump in front. Craig Massoni doubled to score Rafael Rodriguez, and Will Callaway followed with a double to trade places with Massoni, putting Augusta in front, 3-2. Chris Lofton next added an RBI-single to chase Kannapolis starter Jeff McKenzie from the game. McKenzie (2-3) worked 3 and 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks in the loss. Augusta starter Robert Ramer (2-2) earned the win, working 6.0 innings and allowing two runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four. Raymundo Montero, Luis Castillo, and Daniel Slania each threw a scoreless inning out of the Augusta bullpen. Slania recorded the save (12).

49er Strikes Gold: Tyler Barnette matched his career-high with seven strikeouts over 4 and 1/3 innings out of the Kannapolis bullpen. The former Charlotte 49ers hurler took over with two outs in the fourth inning and gave up one run on two hits while walking two. In 11 relief appearances, Barnette now has a 1.33 ERA (4 ER/27 IP) compared to a 7.66 ERA (42 ER/49.1 IP) in his 11 starts. The White Sox selected Barnette out of nearby UNC Charlotte in the 14th round of the June 2013 draft.

Atta-boy, Adam: Centerfielder Adam Engel went 2-4 on Saturday to run his current on-base streak to a career-best 20 straight games since July 11, tied for the 20th-longest streak in the SAL in 2014 and the second-longest by an Intimidators player (Danny Hayes had a 24-game on-base streak April 11 to May 8). During that run, Engel is batting .333 (28-84) with 3 double, 3 triples, 3 home runs, and 11 RBI while posting an on-base percentage of .411. Engel ranks fifth in the league with seven triples.

Another Promotion: Infielder Zach Voight is heading back to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem, the third Intimidators player promoted since July 31, joining RHP Brandon Brennan and LHP Ben Brewster. Voight, who spent two months with the Dash earlier this season, is batting .222 (44-198) with 3 home runs and 20 RBI between Kannapolis and Winston-Salem. Since returning to the Intimidators July 23, Voight hit .250 (7-28) in eight games. He is replacing Nick Basto, whom the Dash placed on the DL on Saturday. Kannapolis receives infielder Toby Thomas from Great Falls. Thomas is batting .274 (26-95) with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs and 13 RBI in 24 games with the Voyagers.

Game Broadcasts: This season all 70 home games and select road games will be broadcast on the Kannapolis Intimidators Baseball Network available at IntimidatorsBaseball.com & on the TuneIn Radio App with Josh Feldman, now in his fourth season as the Voice of the Intimidators.
