Norfolk Admirals News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Andrew O'Brien's overtime tally lifted the Norfolk Admirals over the Binghamton Senators, 2-1, Saturday night at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

Binghamton was the first to draw blood. Derek Grant got his chance on an Admirals power play after Andrew O'Brien took a shot meant for goaltender Scott Greenham. Grant blocked the shot and immediately skated up ice with David Dziurzynski with a two-on-one advantage against Norfolk's defense. The tandem orchestrated a give-and-go, as Dziurzynski passed the puck into the slot. Grant deked left on Norfolk netminder John Gibson before finishing right on the backhand between the Gibson's legs at 8:49.

Late in the second period, Norfolk tied the game. William Karlsson took a face-off in the offensive zone, and the center won the puck cleanly to the top of the right circle. Emerson Etem corralled the puck and snapped a shot over the left pad of Greenham. Etem's fourth of the weekend and fifth in his last three games knotted the contest at 15:39.

The final 20 minutes of the contest didn't see a goal, and the game went into extra time. Barely two minutes into the overtime period, Nic Kerdiles entered the zone and dropped the puck to a trailing Andrew O'Brien coming down the left wing. The defenseman took a slap shot just inside the left circle that blazed past Greenham to give the Admirals the 2-1 overtime victory.

John Gibson made 26 saves on the 27 shots he faced, and Binghamton netminder Scott Greenham denied 29 of 31 opportunities. Norfolk didn't convert on their three power play attempts, and the Senators went 0-for-4 on the man advantage.

With the overtime decision, the Admirals improve to 18-22-3-2, and they will face the Hershey Bears Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m at the Giant Center.
