Nuggets sign Bobby Jones for remainder of season

The Denver Nuggets have signed G/F Bobby Jones for the remainder of the season, team Vice President of Basketball Operations Mark Warkentien announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

Jones, 6-7, 215, has averaged 3.8 ppg and 1.9 rpg in 45 games with five different teams this season, including 23 appearances for the Nuggets. Jones began the year with Denver, averaging 3.3 ppg and 1.4 rpg in 9.0 mpg in 23 games before being waived on Jan. 7. From there he went on to sign 10-day contracts with Memphis (Jan. 10), Houston (Feb. 26), Miami (March 12) and San Antonio (April 1). He averaged 4.4 ppg and 3.0 rpg in 15.2 mpg in nine games with the Grizzlies, 1.0 ppg in 2.3 mpg in four appearances with the Rockets, 8.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg in six games with the Heat, and 0.7 ppg in three outings as a member of the Spurs.

In addition to his 45 games in the NBA this season, Jones also had a stint with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Development League before being made the 24th GATORADE Call-up of the year by San Antonio on April 1. He averaged 12.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg and 2.4 apg in 28.0 mpg during his five appearances in the D-League.

In his second NBA season, Jones has averaged 3.2 ppg and 1.6 rpg in 9.6 mpg during 89 games with six teams (the five previously mentioned and Philadelphia). Drafted 37th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2006 NBA Draft, he was acquired by the 76ers in a draft night trade and went on to spend the entire 2006-07 campaign with the Sixers, tallying 2.5 ppg and 1.3 rpg in 44 games. He was acquired by the Nuggets from Philadelphia, along with Steven Hunter, in exchange for Reggie Evans and the draft rights to Ricky Sanchez on Sept. 10, 2007.
