QUOTES
NYCFC Head Coach Ronny Deila
On not being able to find a goal...
"It is frustrating. I think today we had quite a bit more chances than the opponent and we don't score and they get the chance and put it in. We are not effective enough in what we're doing. So it's a little bit sad for the hard work the players and everybody had put in that we didn't get any points today. There are a lot of good things to take from the performance. We were much more disciplined as a team, we defend good...we created four or five big chances. We just need to be better to create more and also put the ball in the net--that's quite important in football."
On the team responding to conceding a goal...
"We were still working hard to keep them [away] from our goal all the time. We created some chances as well and that's how we have to do. Hard times happen in football, individually and also as a team, and you have to deal with it."
On the match against Orlando City being a "must win"...
"If we want to have it in our own hands, we need to win the next game. If we draw, then it's not in our hands, but still a possibility. Of course, we want to win and go for three points in the next game."
NYCFC Defender Anton Tinnerholm:
On disappointing result...
"In the second half we created a lot of chances. We had three, four, five big chances and they had a half of a chance and they scored. That's how it is, you know. Sometimes you don't score the goals and it's impossible to win the games. If you look at the game we played and how we want to play, how we talked about it before the game, it's how we wanted...we made a pretty decent game, but it's very, very, disappointing to sit here with zero points to start with."
On the matches being a little different in Orlando..
"I think you have to have a wider view of it. The world is different today and everything is not the same like it was. Of course the preparation has been different, the time has been different, the weather has been different, everything is different. You have to deal with it, this is how it is in 2020 and it's a special year. Everyone is different, but now we're here and we want to play football again."
On starting tournament with a loss...
"You know in tournaments like this you want a point from the first one. We didn't get it. It's important how we continue like this and the next game is going to be crucial for us."
NYCFC Defender James Sands:
On the early start...
"Growing up in the US a lot of kids play tournaments where they have to get up early. I remember playing some tournaments here at Disney early in the morning. I had done it before, but I know it definitely was a new experience for a lot of guys. At the end of the day, both teams have to deal with it. It's no easier for them as it was for us."
On the teams' fitness levels in the first match..
"I feel great personally. I know the team worked really hard over the quarantine and over the past couple weeks. I think we all felt fit and I think we adjusted well to the heat which was another big factor. Overall, we are all in good shape."
On partnering at center back with Alexander Callens...
"It's easy to play with a player like Alex Callens. He does so much well, it makes my job a little easier. We played a game together in Toronto before the break, so I was used to it a little bit, but I think we'll get better as we play more games together."
