August 16, 2007 - Eider Torres collected three hits and drove home three runs, helping the Tides top the Columbus 5-2 Thursday night from Harbor Park.
Torres singled home a run in the 2nd inning, singled to center in the 5th, and singled home two more runs in the 7th. His big night helped the Tides knock off the Clippers for the seventh straight time, as Norfolk won the season series from the top affiliate of the Nationals, 9-3.
Jon Knott finished 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the game, the third time in four games that the 28-year-old outfielder has connected for a home run.
Kurt Birkins (7-4) picked up the win for the Tides, allowing two runs on five hits in six innings of work. The southpaw walked two and struck out five, lowering his ERA with Norfolk to 3.16.
Francis Beltran worked around a two out triple by Larry Broadway in the 9th inning to pick up his fifth save of the season.
Chris Michalak (5-6) took the loss for Columbus, allowing five runs on 11 hits. Michalak walked two and struck out two.
Norfolk heads to Richmond for one game on Friday for the start of a four-game home-and-home series with the R-Braves. Norfolk is slated to start Jim Johnson (5-11, 4.19) against Richmond righty Kevin Barry (5-6, 3.97).
