Audry Perez homered and Chris Jones turned in a strong start, but Norfolk dropped a 3-1 decision to the Charlotte Knights Monday night at Harbor Park.

Charlotte starter Hector Noesi (3-4) did not allow a hit through the first five innings until Perez opened the sixth inning with an opposite field homer - his second home run of the season. The homer extended Perez's hitting streak to 10 games, over which he's hit .350 (14-40) with a home run, four RBI and seven runs scored.

Jones (8-7) turned in his team-leading 14th Quality Start but suffered the loss as Norfolk fell for the 10th time in its last 13 games. All the damage against Jones came in a four-batter stretch in the fourth inning, as Dayan Viciedo opened the frame with a solo homer before Kevan Smith later followed with a two-run shot that gave the Knights a 3-0 advantage.

Jones, who struck out six without walking a batter over seven innings of work, has now turned in a Quality Start in 10 of his last 11 outings. The 26-year-old southpaw has also allowed three earned runs or less in 26 of his last 27 starts at the Triple-A level.

The Tides mounted a threat in the last of the ninth, as David Lough walked before a Christian Walker single put runners on first and third with one out. Former Tide Zach Phillips escaped the threat, however, as he struck out Nolan Reimold and Henry Urrutia to register his 12th save of the season.

Despite the loss, Norfolk saw its magic number to clinch the IL South division fall to six, as Gwinnett lost at Durham, 2-1. The Tides, who have eight games remaining over the final seven days of the regular season, lead Gwinnett by 3.0 games and Charlotte by 3.5 games in their quest to reach the IL postseason for the first time since 2005.

The Tides and Knights wrap up their brief two-game set on Tuesday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 7:05. Mike Wright (8-1, 2.40) will make his second rehab start for Norfolk and will be opposed by right-hander Kyle Drabek (7-9, 3.55).
