
Five-Run Sixth Lifts Pigs to 8-3 Win

A five-run sixth lifted the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (62-75) to an 8-3 win over the Syracuse Chiefs (61-76) on Monday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
The afore-mentioned five-run sixth opened up an 8-3 lead for the Pigs. Brian Bogusevic gave the Pigs the lead with an RBI fielder's choice before Jordan Danks crushed a pinch-hit grand slam off of Chiefs RHP Sam Runion. The home run was Danks' sixth of the season.
Runion (1.0 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 0 ER, BB, 2 K) was tagged with the loss for Syracuse and drops to 1-3 on the season.
In the top of the second, the IronPigs took a 1-0 lead as Kelly Dugan (2-4, 2B, RBI, R) drew a walk, moved to second on a force out, to third on a groundout and scored when Pigs starter Anthony Vasquez helped his own cause with an RBI infield single.
Vasquez (8-7) allowed three runs on six hits to go along with three walks and four strikeouts in 6.0 IP.
A pair of runs in the third opened up a 3-0 lead for the Pigs as Dugan and Erik Kratz (3-3, 2B, RBI, R, 2 BB) each came through with two-out, RBI doubles.
Syracuse cut the lead to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the fourth as Matt Skole knocked home both runs with a two-run single.
The Chiefs tied it at three in the fifth as Dan Butler walked to start the inning, moved to second on sac bunt and scored on Scott Sizemore's RBI single.
Syracuse starter Taylor Hill (n/d) gave up thee runs on seven hits while walking two and fanning four in five innings of work.
RHP Chris Leroux (2.0 IP, BB, 2 K) and RHP Nefi Ogando (1.0 IP, H, 2 K) each had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The Pigs will open a brief-two game set with Pawtucket at McCoy Stadium on Tuesday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. as RHP Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez will make his season debut for the IronPigs against Pawtucket LHP Rich Hill (4-3, 1.98).
