Noel's Big Blast Powers Columbus to Victory
April 27, 2024 - International League (IL)
Columbus Clippers News Release
On Friday night, the Columbus Clippers won their second straight game on the road against the Syracuse Mets at NBT Bank Stadium. Columbus prevailed 7-5 in the back-and-forth affair.
Jhonkensy Noel's two-run blast in the 8th inning made the difference. The home run was the third of the season for Noel and his 30th total in a Clippers uniform. Jose Tena, who went 3-for-5, and Kyle Manzardo both also drove in a pair of runs for the ClipShow.
Starting pitcher Hunter Stanley fanned three Mets over 3.1 innings. Five relievers saw action for the Clippers. Mason Hickman (1-0) earned his first career Triple-A victory, while Peter Strzelecki picked up his second save of the season with a perfect 9th inning. The final batter of the game was Syracuse's Mark Vientos, who successfully overturned two strike calls before a Columbus challenge on the last pitch created the game ending third strike.
The series between the Clippers and Mets in Syracuse continues Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 1:05pm. Columbus returns home on April 30 when the Toledo Mud Hens come to town for Tanksy Tuesday Dime-A-Dog Night. Tickets are available at ClippersBaseball.com.
