Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Tyler Minges smacked an RBI double off the Maine Monster in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the Sea Dogs to a 2-1 victory over Erie on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Portland completed a three-game sweep of the SeaWolves and finished an abbreviated homestand at 4-0. Portland has won nine straight for the second time in franchise history and their Northern Divison leading record improved to 36-22.

Victor Ramos (3-1) struck out the side in the top of the ninth inning to earn the victory in relief. John Ennis allowed the winning run to suffer his first loss of the season.

Both teams scored single runs in the sixth inning. Chris Maples homered off Devern Hansack and Portland scored when Gabe Kapler crossed the plate on an apparent wild pitch with Jeremy West at the plate. West appeared to foul tip a 1-2 pitch but the umpire made no signal, the ball got through Erie catcher Mike Rabelo, scoring Kapler. After the play, Erie Manager Duffy Dyer, Pitching Coach Mike Caldwell and Rabelo were ejected for arguing the call.

Phil Seibel worked five scoreless innings, extending his scoreless streak to 22 and 1/3 innings, establishing a new franchise record (Craig Hansen - 21.1). Seibel took his fourth no-decision of the season and lowered his ERA to 1.20

Preston Larrison made his 12th start for Erie, allowing one run over seven and 1/3 innings on five hits, four walks and five strikeouts.

Kapler finished 4-for-10 in the three games with the Sea Dogs; he picked up three doubles and a triple.

Notes...All four wins for Portland on the homestand were come from behind victories...Minges is 13-for-26 with runners in scoring position...he had the only hit for Portland with RISP (1-for-15)...Portland is 7-0 against the Southern Division at home.
