Baysox Salvage Series, Avoid Sweep in Sunday Slugfest 11-5 June 11, 2006 - Tony Alvarez, Delgado Go Back-to-Back in 11-5 Rout - Sunday afternoon the Baysox put on a 14-hit show for the 5,133 fans in attendance as Louie, the Baysox lovable furry mascot, celebrated his 9th birthday with a few of his closest mascot friends. On the field the Baysox jumped all over the B-Mets starter, Miguel Perez, for seven runs in four innings and continued to hit off reliever Orlando Roman. On the bump two Brian's pitched spectacular baseball for the home team. Brian Finch notched his team-leading seventh quality start with a six inning, six strike out performance. The Texas native walked just two batters while giving up three runs, two of which were earned. Brian Forystek relieved Finch in the 7th and gave up two runs but struck out four through three frames. At the plate everybody contributed to the Baysox most runs scored in a game this season. Down 1-0 in the 2nd Tony Alvarez led off with a solo shot to right field and was followed by another home run to right, this time compliments of Mario Delgado. It was the second time this season that the Baysox have hit back-to-back home runs in a game. Following Delgado Leo Daigle reached on a throwing error and scored on Pete Shier's RBI grounder to make it 3-1. Binghamton tied things up in the 3rd with a solo shot and a wild pitch by Finch. Fiorentino walked to start the Bowie 3rd, stole second and scored on Cory Keylor's double to right. Keylor then scored on Mario Delgado's RBI double into centerfield. The Baysox added to their 5-3 lead in the 5th with two more runs. Tony Alvarez was hit in the back with a pitch and scored all the way from first on Delgado's third RBI of the afternoon. Delgado, who doubled, scored due in part to Shier's second RBI, a bases loaded sacrifice bunt to third after the B-Mets replaced Perez with Roman. In the 6th, Bowie put one more on the board. Gera Alvarez singled on the ground to center field, was moved around the bags by the following batters and scored on Daigle's RBI infield single. Bowie did not stop adding to their hit fest as they garnered three more runs in the bottom of the 7th off Roman. Shier doubled to left, his first actual hit of the game, moved to third on Rayner Bautista's single and both runners scored on Fiorentino's three run blast to right field to take an 11-3 lead. Binghamton put up two runs in the 8th on a Jay Caligiuri two-run blast off Forystek to narrow the Baysox surmounting lead to six but 'Styk retired the Mets 2-3-4 hitters in the top of the 9th to earn his first AA save in his career. The Illinois State product is now 1-for-2 in save opportunities this season. With the win the Baysox improve to 27-33 while the Mets fall to 26-36 on the season.
