Nine Bucks Selected in Second Day of MLB Draft

Waterloo, IA - Eight former Waterloo Bucks and one current Buck were selected on the second day of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

With the 89th overall selection, the Tampa Bay Rays selected RHP Lenny Linskyin the second round. The junior from University of Hawaii made 18 appearances for Waterloo in 2009, finishing with a 0-6 record and a 5.03 ERA. This past season, Linsky finished with a 1.30 ERA, a 1-1 record, and 34 strikeouts for the Warriors.

In the seventh round, 1B Ryan Riegerwas drafted by the Florida Marlins as the 223 overall pick. Rieger (pronounced REE-gur) spent two seasons with the Waterloo Bucks (2009-'10) while attending the College of the Sequoias, where he is now a sophomore. In his 2011 season with the Giants, he tallied a .365 average with 50 hits and 31 runs batted in. In two seasons with the Bucks, Reiger hit .310 with seven home runs and 44 RBI.

The next former Buck to be selected was OF Jason Krizan. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the eighth round and was the 257thpick overall. Krizan (pronounced kreh-ZAHN) played for the Bucks in 2009, racking up a .282 average with 41 hits and 12 RBI. Krizan is currently a senior at Dallas Baptist University and is hitting .419 with 101 hits and 39 doubles for the Patriots.

Former Bucks LHP Greg Williams, a junior at Marshall University, was drafted in the 12thround by the Texas Rangers as the 384thpick overall. He played briefly for the Bucks in 2010, pitching four innings in three game appearances. Williams finished the 2011 college season with a 5.82 ERA, a 1-1 record, and 17 strikeouts.

In the 16th round, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim selected former Buck 1B Frazier Hallas the 495thoverall pick. Hall played for Waterloo in 2009, playing in 53 games. The Southern University senior hit .213 for Waterloo while posting 10 doubles and 21 RBI. Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Hill finished his 2011 college season with the Jaguars with a .423 average and a .718 slugging percentage.

Outfielder Trevor Adamsalso went in the 16thround. He played for the Bucks in 2009 and was taken by the Texas Rangers as the 504thoverall pick. He is currently a senior at Creighton University, where he led the team's 2011 season with 89 hits and 57 RBI while batting .387. During his season with the Bucks he had a .222 average, 12 hits, and three RBI.

Just two rounds later, LHP Corey Kimeswas drafted by the Minnesota Twins. He was the 568thoverall pick. During his 2009 season with the Bucks, Kimes had a 6.99 ERA with 37.1 innings pitched and 26 strikeouts. He is currently a junior at Illinois and turned in a 5.15 ERA with 85.2 innings pitched and 57 strikeouts in his 2011 college season.

Mitch Mormann, RHP, also played for Waterloo last year. He made 11 appearances with 16.1 innings pitched and 14 strikeouts. He currently attends Wichita State University and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 25thround as the 767thoverall pick. In his 2011 college season he redshirted with Wichita State.

Brandon Parrent, a LHP from Texas A&M, was drafted in the 30thround (921st overall) by the Chicago White Sox. He is currently on the Bucks roster but has not yet arrived in Waterloo. Parrent owns a 3.65 ERA in 44.1 IP and has 28 strikeouts in his sophomore season with the Aggies.

The MLB Draft continues today, with rounds 31 through 50.
