Madison Mallards News Release

MADISON, WI - June 8, 2011. After suffering a loss in their home-opener a night ago, the Madison Mallards will take the field looking to get back on track against the Wisconsin Woodchucks tonight at Warner Park, a.k.a. "the Duck Pond."

The Ducks will turn to starter Chris Burgess (Blackhawk College) tonight. Burgess is 1-0 on the season and was named the "Pitcher of the Night" by the Northwoods League for his performance in his last start against Wisconsin Rapids. He went seven complete innings, giving up two runs on five hits while walking no one and striking out eight.

"Chris was great in his last start," said Mallards' field manager Greg Labbe. "If we can get something remotely close to his start in Rapids, I like our chances."

Burgess also pitched one inning of relief in the Mallards' 8-4 loss against the Loggers in La Crosse last Sunday.

On the mound for the Woodchucks will be Derek Howell (Seminole State). Howell has started one game for the Woodchucks. He went 2.1 innings, giving up three runs on four hits against Eau Claire in the Woodchucks' only win of the season back on June 3rd.

The Ducks will look to keep their offense clicking Wednesday. The team racked up six runs on fourteen hits last night, which was the fourth time in seven games that the Mallards collected double-digit hits.

Despite yesterday's loss, the Mallards remain in first place in the Northwoods League's South Division. With their 5-2 record, the Ducks share the number one spot with Battle Creek, Eau Claire, and Green Bay.

First pitch in tonight's contest is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
