Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Wednesday, August 15, 2007 - Tacoma Rainiers owner Nick Lachey will be attending the Saturday, August 25 Rainiers game against the Portland Beavers. Lachey will also play in a celebrity softball game at Cheney Stadium -- as well as take batting practice with the team.
"I'm excited to get back up to Tacoma for a great day of baseball. I've told several of the players I could hit the hanging curve, so I can't wait to get into the batting cage and show the guys my skills," said Lachey as he cracked a smile. "Playing in the softball game will also be a great way to raise money for a very worthy cause."
Fans will have a chance to catch Lachey, Saturday afternoon, at Cheney Stadium when he will step up to the plate and take batting practice with the Rainiers. For this, the Rainiers have put together a special ticket package that will allow fans to enter the park at 5pm for batting practice. Lachey will also toss out the Ceremonial First Pitch prior to the game at 7pm.
This $15 ticket package includes one reserved ticket, one Nick Lachey Jersey T-Shirt (for first 2,000 packages sold), and the opportunity to win an autographed Nick Lachey item.
"Nick's presence at the game that night will add another level of excitement to what is shaping up to be a great Saturday at Cheney Stadium," said Rainiers President Aaron Artman.
Nick will also be available for some select media interviews following batting practice on the field behind the batting practice cage. Media arrangements should be made prior to the game.
To order the special $15 ticket package, fans must call or stop by the Rainiers Box Office. The Box Office number is 253-752-7700.
With just 2,000 packages available, the Rainiers recommend ordering in advance.
Prior to batting practice and the Rainiers game on Saturday, Lachey will be playing in the Richard Karn Celebrity Softball Game presented by Windermere Professional Partners. Karn is best known for his role as Al Borland on the hit television show, "Home Improvement."
Last year, a weekend of events helped raise more than $630,000 for Tacoma General's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and MultiCare Health Foundation. Proceeds helped purchase 16 specialized incubators for premature infants.
"This fundraising event is becoming one of the most successful in the South Sound," said Michael Shields, Director of Special Events and Corporate Relations for MultiCare Health System. "Having Nick Lachey involved will only help raise awareness about the importance Tacoma General NICU plays in our community."
The softball game will begin at 11:00am at Cheney Stadium on the 25th. Tickets to the softball game can be purchased through Windermere Professional Partners for $15 by calling 253-565-1189 or through www.windermerepropartners.com.
