Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, CA - It was a day well worth waiting for Fresno Grizzlies fans Wednesday as the Grizzlies hit their way to a 6-3 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers. With a Sacramento and Tucson loss, the Grizzlies are now 8 ½ games back of first place and 1 ½ games back of second place, respectively.

A night after postponing the series opening game due to delays in Tacoma's team travel, the Grizzlies put their own equipment to work, as they pounded out 11 hits in the game, including at least a hit by every starter in the batting lineup.

For the first time all season, Grizzlies fans were able to get a glimpse of catcher Eliezer Alfonzo, who is with the team on rehab for the San Francisco Giants. Alfonzo, who joined Fresno in its series with Tucson, has now hit in all four games he's played in after going 1 for 4 with a home run and an RBI. Alfonzo has also driven in at least one run in each of the four games he has played in thus far.

Fresno starter Matt Kinney (10-9) has also officially caught fire as he earned his sixth straight win while pitching six innings and striking out seven Rainiers batters. Kinney also extended his league-high strikeout total to 119 on the season.

Still, it was the Fresno offense that stole the show as the team came through for five extra-base hits, including Grizzlies first baseman Scott McClain's team-leading 27th big fly of the year. McClain also drove in his 91st run of the season as part of a two-hit night.

Fresno's Tyler Walker picked up his second save of the year for the Grizzlies while throwing the last four outs for the Grizzlies.

Grizzlies fans are in for a double-dose of fun Thursday, as the Rainiers and Grizzlies will continue their series with a double-header for the final Thirsty Thursday of the season (presented by 104.1 FM). Fans will be treated to $1 sodas and draft beer for all seven scheduled innings in the Grizzlies first game of the double-header, while 12 oz. sodas will be just $1 all night. It will also be "Save Arvin Night" at Chukchansi Park as the Grizzlies will honor the city of Arvin, smoggiest city in America.

Tickets are available at the Chukchansi Park ticket office, over the phone at 559-320-TIXS, or online at www.fresnogrizzlies.com.
