Round Rock Pitches In Against Cancer

Players to sport pink jerseys in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure

ROUND ROCK - The Round Rock Express will don pink jerseys on Tuesday, Aug. 21, as part of the team's Pitch for Pink night at The Dell Diamond benefiting the Austin affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The team returns to The Dell Diamond from an eight-game road trip through New Orleans and Albuquerque on Saturday, Aug. 18.

Round Rock will distribute pink caps to the first 3,000 fans courtesy of Infinity Lending and will partner with several other local organizations, including St. David's Round Rock Medical Center, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Young Survival Coalition, the Breast Cancer Resource Center, the American Cancer Society, Community Action, WINGS, KASE 101 FM, The Zone 1300 AM and Jammin' 105.9 FM.

"We're excited about the opportunities to have an event such as a Round Rock Express game to share information about breast health and breast cancer awareness," said Mary Cavanagh, Director of Education and Outreach for the Austin affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. "It's important to reach men and women of all ages, because breast cancer impacts us all."

Added Deborah Ryle, Chief Executive Officer of St. David's Round Rock Medical Center: "We are proud to play a leading role in the fight against breast cancer here in Williamson County. This partnership is one more way St. David's is ensuring that our neighbors have the educational resources and access to preventative healthcare close to home, both of which are critical in combating a disease that touches so many of our lives."

The Express will wear pink jerseys, each with a symbolic ribbon on the shoulder. The jerseys will be auctioned off on eBay with the proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure Austin. Fans will also have a chance to participate in raffles featuring a Nolan Ryan autographed pink jersey, a team autographed jersey and a $500 H-E-B gift card courtesy of Infinity Lending along the left field concourse.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is dedicated to curing breast cancer at every stage. The organization is currently stationed in more than 125 cities and has advocates at the city, state and federal level.
