Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Salt Lake City, UT - Mike Eylward and Tim Duff homered as part of a five run bottom of the seventh inning for Salt Lake that helped propel the Bees to a 10-9 win over the Sidewinders on Wednesday night.

D.J. Carrasco gave up a solo shot to Eylward that tied the game at five and after consecutive singles by Terry Evans and Greg Porter, Duff launched a three run blast to put the Bees in front 8-5. Robby Hammock's throwing error later in the inning made it a 9-5 game and a dropped fly ball by Carlos Quentin in the eighth gave Salt Lake a five run cushion.

Carrasco was saddled with the loss as he allowed five runs (four earned) in his two innings of work on five hits.

The Sidewinders rallied in the ninth but left the tying run on base. Rich Thompson's RBI single brought Tucson to within 10-6 and a wild pitch made it 10-7. Quentin laced a two run single to right-center to score a pair but Chris Carter struck out against the former Sidewinder Jason Bulger to end the game.

Bulger recorded the final two outs for the save. Aaron Pullin earned the win in relief by working two scoreless innings.

Tucson jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first on a three run homer from Quentin and a double play grounder that scored another run. Salt Lake halved the lead in their half of the first as Casey Smith and Kendry Morales had run scoring hits against Bill Murphy.

Murphy did not figure in the decision. He worked five innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. He struck out a season high 10, including five in his final two innings, and walked just two.

The Bees tied the game in the third on a home run by Morales and a fielder's choice. Tucson reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth on a RBI single from Rich Thomspon.

The Sidewinders and Bees play game three of their series on Thursday night at Franklin Covey Field. Left-hander Greg Smith (1-2, 5.52) starts for Tucson against right-hander Kasey Olenberger (10-5, 4.56) for Salt Lake. First pitch is at 6:05 Tucson time. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:00.
