Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

SALEM, VA. - The Delmarva Shorebirds set a new season-high for runs scored as they stomped the Salem Red Sox in a 17-10 victory on Tuesday night at Carilion Clinic Field.

With 11 new additions on the roster, the new look Shorebirds (38-70, 17-26) blasted their way to a series opening victory over the Red Sox (55-53, 20-22).

Dylan Beavers opened the scoring with a two-run single in the first inning for the Shorebirds ultimately advancing to second on the play. He stole third and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

Salem loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and got a run back on a Tyler Miller sacrifice fly.

The 'Birds three run lead was restored in the top of the second on an Adam Crampton RBI double.

Jud Fabian led off the third for the Shorebirds with a solo shot, his first homer of the season. Crampton produced his second RBI double later in the inning before the 'Birds loaded the bases and scored two more when Max Wagner was hit by a pitch and a wild pitch allowed Reed Trimble to score, making it 8-1.

Salem plated two runs in the last off the fifth. First, Eduardo Lopez ripped an RBI single and then a double play with the bases loaded allowed another run to score.

Sacrifice flies from Isaac De Leon and Silas Ardoin pushed the Shorebirds lead to 10-3 in the top of the sixth.

The Red Sox cut it to a three-run game in the bottom of the sixth. Eddinson Paulino drove in a run with a groundout before Lopez lashed another RBI single. Brainer Bonaci then blasted a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, cutting it to a 10-7 game.

The Shorebirds responded right back in the top of the seventh. Beavers and Fabian each drew bases loaded walks before De Leon lashed a three-run double, giving Delmarva their largest lead of the night at 15-7.

Again though, Salem rallied. Two wild pitches allowed runs to score before Lopez legged out an infield single to plate a run, making it 15-10.

Fabian put the game firmly to bed with a two-run double in the top of the ninth, placing the final line at 17-10.

Yaqui Rivera (3-1) earned the win for the Shorebirds with two shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out three.

Angel Bastardo (3-4) suffered the loss for Salem, allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit and three walks, striking out one.
