Hillcats Suffer 3-1 Loss
August 17, 2022 - Carolina League (CarL)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Lynchburg Hillcats had their bats silenced in their 3-1 loss to the Fredericksburg Nationals on Wednesday night.
The Hillcats (18-26) were held scoreless until the ninth inning after a great outing from Jackson Rutledge for the Nationals (28-15).
It was a pitcher's duel throughout, but the Nationals got the better of Hillcats starter Trenton Denholm as he surrendered three runs over his four innings of work. The Nationals got on the board first with a double in the second inning by Geraldi Diaz that scored Trey Lipscomb.
In the third, two more runs would score on a Branden Boissiere single and a throwing error by Jorge Burgos to give the Nationals the three-run lead.
The Hillcats would threaten a couple of times over the first few innings but could not scratch a run across. In the ninth, Jorge Burgos would drive home their only run of the ballgame on a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Jake Fox.
The Hillcats were held hitless from the fourth inning until the ninth. However, the bullpen was able to throw five strong innings of relief picking up nine strikeouts.
The Hillcats and Nationals will square off again on Thursday night at 6:30 at Bank of the James Stadium.
