Nedeljkovic's 44 saves get Whalers past Spits
November 27, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
Alex Nedeljkovic made 44 saves and Sonny Milano led the way with three points, as the Whalers edged the Spitfires 4-3 at The Compuware Arena in Plymouth.
Windsor (7-15-1-0) outshot Plymouth (10-12-1-1) 31-12 over the final 40 minutes, but couldn't overcome a pair of two-goal deficits.
Trailing 3-1, Markus Soberg (3) cut the lead to a single goal at the 10:55 mark of the second period. But Milano (4) countered with a power play marker with less than four minutes to play in the frame, leaving the Spits down 4-2 after 40 minutes.
Again, the visitors cut the lead to one at 14:53 of the third, courtesy of a nice three-way passing play finished off by Trevor Murphy (7).
But that's as close as Windsor could get, despite a late flurry that included a crossbar, a goal post and four shots in the final minute of play.
Connor Chatham (2A), Matt Mistele (1G, 1A) and Matthew Campagna (1G, 1A) all had multi-point games.
Sam Povorozniouk chipped in a pair of assists in a losing cause.
Brendan Johnston started in goal for the third consecutive game, but was relieved by Alex Fotinos at the begining of the second period after surrendering three goals on 13 shots.
The teams meet again in the back-end of the home-and-home series this Friday at the WFCU Centre.
Gametime is 7:35.
