Kitchener Rangers News Release

Mike Davies scored the lone goal for the Kitchener Rangers in a 3-1 loss to the Peterborough Petes on Thursday night. The teams split their two-game season series with one win apiece.

The clubs skated through a scoreless opening frame. Dawson Carty made eight saves for the Rangers, and netminder Matthew Mancina responded with 11 stops for Peterborough.

Mike Davies broke the deadlock with nine minutes remaining in the middle frame, putting Kitchener ahead 1-0. The former first round pick got his stick on Frank Hora's point shot, deflecting it past Mancina for his seventh of the season and second goal in three games. Rookie Connor Bunnaman also assisted on the goal, the lone tally of the second period.

The Rangers continued to out-shoot the Petes, with a 13-12 advantage in the frame.

Waterloo native Steven Lorentz put Peterborough on the board 17 seconds into the third period, knotting the score at 1-1. The sophomore fired a shot from the wing that beat Carty, with assists from Matt McCartney and Michael Clarke.

Lorentz scored his second of the game with 5:09 to play, giving the Petes their first lead of the game. Nick Ritchie set up the tally, shifting around a defender and firing a shot on goal that was turned aside by Carty. Lorentz jumped on the rebound at the side of the net, snapping it over the goal line for his fifth of the season. The second assist was credited to captain Connor Boland.

Ritchie sealed a 3-1 Peterborough win with an empty net goal at 19:51. Clarke earned his second point of the night with an assist on the Anaheim Ducks prospect's 12th of the season.

The Petes led shots on goal 12-11 in the final frame, but the Rangers finished with a 32-31 overall advantage.
