Erie Otters News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania - The Otters topped Mississauga 5-1 Thursday night in a Thanksgiving throw down at Erie Insurance Arena.

Nick Betz sent a rocket at Mississauga net minder Cameron Zanussi, but it was Taylor Raddysh who picked up the first goal, splitting the defense and finding an opening under Zanussi's pads two and a half minutes in. Mason Marchment and Jesse Saban were awarded assists on the goal. Two minutes later it was 2-0 Otters after Trent Fox redirected a shot from Patrick Murphy behind Zanussi.

Travis Dermott was called for the first penalty of the night, but the Otters killed the infraction before starting a strong possession in the Mississauga zone. There were a few big opportunities for Erie - and Daniel Dekoning made a huge save to keep Mississauga off the board - but the Otters weren't finished for the period. Kyle Pettit tipped the puck over the right pad of Zanussi, giving the Otters a 3-0 lead with 48.4 left in the period.

Dylan Strome struck just over four minutes into the second with a goal off a rebound, Saban picking up his second helper of the night with the lone assist. Everett Clark put Mississauga on the board and broke the shutout, finding a hole in Dekoning's pads.

A quick succession of penalties saw the Otters go from 1:22 of a 5-on-3 advantage to 4-on-3, 4-on-4, and then a penalty kill. But with four seconds to go in the initial Mississauga penalty, Kurtis MacDermid put Erie back at a four-goal advantage with a big slap shot, bringing the score to 5-1. Darren Raddysh and Joel Wigle both picked up their second assists of the night on the goal.

Mississauga switched up their goaltenders to start the third, bringing in Spencer Martin to relieve Zanussi. The teams exchanged penalties, but neither was able to capitalize. Martin saved all nine shots faced, while Dekoning made big saves of his own. Closing out the game, Cory Genovese jumped to the defense of Travis Dermott, dropping the gloves with Josh Burnside, finishing out the game.

Darren Raddysh extends his point streak to 16-games with two assists on the night. Dekoning moves to 8-0-0-0 in starts for the season, with one shutout. Wigle, Taylor Raddysh, Strome, and Fox all keep point streaks alive on a night where points came from 11 different players.

The Otters head north to London to take on the Knights Friday night before heading home Saturday to face off against the Belleville Bulls at 7 p.m.
