Snow Won't Stop This Rematch
For the second consecutive day, the Wheeling Nailers and Cincinnati Cyclones will do battle, except this time, the scene shifts to WesBanco Arena. On Saturday night, the Cyclones got the upper hand in the first half of the home-and-home series, thanks to a pair of goals by Josh Shalla in a 4-1 win. Pittsburgh native Rob Madore picked up the win in goal, making 25 saves.
Temperature on the Ice Was Boiling
On Saturday night, the Nailers set a pair of season highs, thanks to an altercation that took place at the 13:59 mark of the third period. A total of 94 penalty minutes were dished out at that time, including four game misconducts, which accounted for 40 of the minutes. Over the course of the game, Wheeling received a season-high 72 penalty minutes, while Cincinnati was whistled for 45 penalty minutes - a season-high for the opposition.
Mannino Mans the Net
The Wheeling goal crease will see its sixth different face on Sunday afternoon, as Peter Mannino gets his first ECHL start of the 2013-14 campaign. Earlier this season, Mannino appeared in three games with the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, posting a 1-1-0 record, with his lone win coming in his first start on October 19th at Worcester. Over the course of his career, Peter has appeared in 31 games with Utah and Chicago, going 14-11-6.
Two Missing Pieces
Both teams will be without a member of their lineup on Sunday, as the ECHL announced a pair of suspensions, as a result of Saturday night's game. The Nailers will be missing forward Chaz Johnson, while the Cyclones will not have the services of defenseman David MacDonald. Both players were involved in a secondary altercation with 6:01 left in the game, after Patrick McGrath and Tony Turgeon had initially dropped the mitts.
102 Games, and It's Back to Square One
Sunday afternoon's game marks the 103rd all-time meeting between Wheeling and Cincinnati, as well as the eighth this season. The first 102 tilts haven't settled anything, as both sides enter with 51 victories over the other. Thus far this season, the Cyclones have the slight edge, as Saturday night's win was their fourth in seven tries. Cincinnati has won two of three games at WesBanco Arena, including a 4-2 triumph on January 9th.
