TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (26-8-2-3) hope to end their two-game losing streak, the most regulation losses the Reign have faced all season, as they face the Stockton Thunder (21-13-0-5) who are on a four-game point streak with three wins. The Thunder has won the past three meetings between these two teams by a margin of at least two goals outscoring the Reign 13-4.
ROUGH AND TOUGH:
The Reign and Thunder are the fifth and sixth most penalized teams in the league with an average of 18.21 and 17.92 penalty mins. per game. In the nine games these teams have played so far this season, only one of them has gone on without a fight. These teams have a deep seeded rivalry which is always apparent in the physical action on the ice.
BRING ON THE POWER:
The Reign have struggled with their power play production with just one power-play goal in their previous eight contests, going 1/18. In those past eight games, the Reign have allowed one power-play goal in six of them going 24/30 on the penalty kill. Jason Dale scored his first goal, a short-handed goal, on Friday when the Reign were down a player and he and Jake Hauswirth successfully crashed the net and made the most of a Thunder rebound. It was the Reign's first short-handed goal since December 13. Ontario is the only team in the league without a short-handed goal against.
HOLDING ON TO NUMBER 1:
With four losses, three regulation losses, in the past five games, the Reign's point lead in the Western Conference is slowly closing as the Alaska Aces are now just four points away from tying the Reign for that top spot. The Aces have been hot winning five of their last six games with six home games in a row which has favored the club in the past.
