Toledo, OH: Despite a two-goal start, the Road Warriors could not protect the lead against the Toledo Walleye in a 4-2 loss on Sunday night.
The Road Warriors started the game off with a goal from Andrew Rowe just 3:53 in. Michael St. Croix and Josh Nicholls assisted on Rowe's 11th of the year. Greenville converted on a power play to give them a two-goal lead. Mike Marcou drove a quick shot past Mac Carruth for his sixth of year. Marcou continued his point streak to four games with the goal. Jordie Johnston and Rowe assisted on the goal. Toledo's Aaron Clarke brought the game to a 2-1 Road Warriors' lead with a slap shot goal. Clarke intercepted a clearing attempt to score blocker high on Jasson Missiaen. With six seconds left, Toledo tied the game at two. Maxim Shalunov beat Missiaen for his fifth of the year in just ten games played.
In a penalty filled second period, only one goal was scored. Toledo obtained the lead for the time via the power play on a rebound goal by Clarke for his second of the night. The period featured a fight between Bretton Cameron and Stephon Thorne. The Road Warriors collected 33 penalty minutes in the period, including a game misconduct to Sam Noreau for leaving the bench during an altercation.
With eight minutes left in the third period, Toledo added another goal to pad their lead to a 4-2 margin. Shalunov scored his second of the game to complete the scoring for the night. Toledo snapped a four-game losing streak with the win. Missiaen made 24 saves in his first ECHL loss of the season. Walleye goaltender Carruth made 25 saves in the win.
The Road Warriors travel to Estero, Florida on Wednesday for a 7:30 faceoff against the Everblades. Fans can hear the game by clicking the listen live link on the Road Warriors homepage or watch via America One.
