This Week's Recap and Results

Tuesday, Jan. 18: Wheeling - 7 at Cincinnati ‚¬" 1

Nick Petersen scored twice, as the Nailers exploded for seven goals for the third time this season at US Bank Arena. Wheeling has outscored the Cyclones 28-11 in five games at US Bank Arena this season.

Friday, Jan 21: Wheeling ‚¬" 4 vs. Trenton -- 3

Casey Pierro-Zabotel finished with a goal and an assist to help lead the Nailers to victory over the Devils at Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown. Moments after Pierro-Zabotel's second period goal, Wheeling Kelly Miller stepped out of the penalty box, poked the puck away from the Trenton defenseman, and led a 3-on-0 rush into the zone. Miller called his own number, deked and fired the puck past goaltender Shane Connelly to give Wheeling a 4-2 lead.

Saturday, Jan 22: Wheeling ‚¬" 3 at Trenton -- 2

The Nailers scored four goals in a 1:48 span, to rally to defeat the Trenton Devils 6-4 The Nailers went on the power play trailing 4-2 with 4:31 remaining. Nick Petersen converted on the power play scoring his second tally of the game, re-directing a Kyle Bushee shot to pull Wheeling within one. Nearly 30 seconds later, Petersen broke into the zone on the left wing and sniped a shot past goaltender Jeff Lerg high on the glove side tying the game at four.

A minute later, Kelly Miller deflected shot from the slot into the Trenton net giving Wheeling tis first lead of the game 5-4. Seventeen seconds later, Nick Petersen set up Casey-Pierro-Zabotel's insurance marker to seal the 6-4 come-from-behind victory. Nick Petersen finished the game with five points scoring (3g, 2a).

Saturday, Jan 22: Wheeling ‚¬" 4 at Trenton ‚¬" 3

Wheeling raced out to a 3-0 lead after two period of play at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Despite, scoring three goal in the third, the Devils were unable to stop Joey Haddad from scoring the Nailers fourth goal at 6:56 of the third. The goal would stand as the eventual game winner. David Marshall and Haddad each finished with a goal and an assist in the game.

This Week's Quick Hits

Rookie forward Nick Petersen posted big numbers this week. Petersen scored five goals and five assists in four games played this week, including posting his second five-point performance of the season on Saturday at Trenton (3g, 2a). Petersen scored a goal and added four assists in a game against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Sunday, December 26. After Sunday's win over Trenton, Nailers netminder Peter Delmas improved to 4-0 on the season. Forward Kelly Miller scored a goal in three of the four games this week.
