Nailers Goebel Named Player Of The Week

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that rookie right winger Tommy Goebel is the In Glas Co Player of the Week for Oct. 20-26.

The 23 year old had nine points (4g-5a) as the Nailers went 2-0-1 to improve to 4-0-1 and a league-leading nine points.

He has registered an assist in each of his first five games and had his first professional hat trick and a career-high four points in a 5-3 win against Trenton on Sunday. He has had two assists three times including Friday against Cincinnati and Saturday against Trenton.

Goebel leads the league with 13 points in five games while his eight assists tie him for the league lead and his five goals are tied for second.

He signed with Rochester in the American Hockey League in 2007-08 after completing his career at Ohio State University and had five points (2g-3a) in five games for the Americans. The Parma, Ohio native played the past two seasons at OSU and had 62 points (33g-29a) and 69 penalty minutes in 71 games after playing two years at Michigan State University where he had 53 points (21g-32a) and 54 penalty minutes in 76 games from 2003-05.

On behalf of Tommy Goebel, a case of pucks will be donated to a Wheeling area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas Co has donated more than 20,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
