Cincinnati's Grimaldi Suspended Nine Games, Fined
Published on October 28, 2008 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced that it has suspended Cincinnati
defenseman Joe Grimaldi for nine games and fined him an undisclosed amount
as a result of his actions in ECHL Game #35 at Wheeling on Oct. 24.
Grimaldi was assessed a misconduct penalty under Rule 40.4 at 8:51 of the
third period. During play he picked up a broken stick and in the process of
removing it threw it over the glass behind the players' bench.
"Numerous communications have taken place between the league office and our
member teams and players. The message is very clear, players who propel
objects such as sticks or equipment into the stands will face serious
sanctions from the league office. Fortunately, this stick did not strike a
spectator," said ECHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Rod Pasma.
Grimaldi is suspended and fined under Rule 29 Supplemental Discipline.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and
the Professional Hockey Players' Association, player fines collected by the
ECHL are given to the PHPA for its ECHL Player's Hardship Fund.
Grimaldi missed Cincinnati's game against Dayton (Oct. 25) and will miss
Cincinnati's games at Reading (Oct. 31), at Dayton (Nov. 1), vs. Reading
(Nov. 4), vs. Reading (Nov. 5), vs. Elmira (Nov. 7), vs. Elmira (Nov. 8),
at Johnstown (Oct. 12) and at Elmira (Oct. 14).
