Wheeling Nailers News Release

Wheeling and Elmira are currently in a tight heat, along with the Reading Royals in the ECHL's Atlantic Division. Reading currently owns the top spot in the group with a 7-6-1 record (15 points), but 7-3 Wheeling (14 points) and 6-6 Elmira (12 points) are riding close behind. The Royals have played in the most games out of the three, having taken the ice 14 times, while the Jackals (12 games played) and Nailers (10 games played) both have games in hand.

Last week, the Nailers played three games on the road against the Florida Everblades, posting a 1-2 record. Wheeling lost the first two games of the series by final scores of 4-1 and 7-2, before responding with a 4-1 victory in Saturday's finale. Chris Barton led the way offensively for the Nailers, recording two goals, three assists, and five points in the three games, while extending his point streak to six games. Olivier Dame-Malka also extended his point streak to six games, dishing out an assist in each of the three games at Germain Arena. Peter Delmas earned his third win in four decisions on Saturday night.

The Jackals enter WesBanco Arena, after playing four games in five days last week, posting a 2-2 record. After edging Gwinnett 3-2 in overtime on Evan Barlow's seventh goal of the season on Wednesday, Elmira played three straight games against Reading on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The two squads exchanged road victories in the first two tilts of the series, before the Royals closed out the three-game set with a 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon. Barlow continued his torrid pace on offense for the Jackals, adding two more goals, running his season total to nine. Brian Stewart was the goaltender of record in three of Elmira's four contests last week, going 2-1.

When it comes to familiar faces in new places, Mario Larocque returns for his second game as a visiting player at WesBanco Arena, after playing in 132 games as a Nailer over two seasons. Thus far this season, Larocque has one goal, four assists, five points, and 26 penalty minutes in nine games.
