Wheeling Nailers News Release
CINCINNATI, OH - Jean-Michel Daoust's hat trick paced the Cincinnati Cyclones to a 5-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers Wednesday night at US Bank Arena. Ned Havern scored both goals for the Nailers but it was not enough as the Cyclones peppered Nathan Marsters with 48 shots.
Daoust's first goal of the game was the only goal netted in the first period. It came at 11:52 when Daoust wristed one over the shoulder of Marsters for his 19thgoal of the season. Matt Syroczynski and David Desharnais were given assists on the play.
Five of the seven goals scored in the game occurred during the second period. Havern got things going just 16 seconds into the period with the first Nailers' shorthanded goal of the season. David Laliberte set up Havern for a one-timer that deflected off a defender and jumped over the shoulder of Dov Grumet-Morris.
The Nailers and Cyclones combined for three goals in 35 seconds between 5:01 and 5:36 of the middle period. With Cincinnati on the power play, Daoust added his second of the game set up by Tyler Howells and Syroczynski. Havern quickly tied the game at two just 22 seconds later, converting on a 2-on-1 with Sean Collins. The Cyclones responded with a Corey Urquhart blast 13 seconds after the center ice faceoff to take a 3-2 advantage.
Before the end of the second Daoust struck again, completing the hat trick at 17:28. His league leading 21st of the year came on the power play when Desharnais found him at the side of the goal to increase the Cincinnati lead to 4-2.
The Cyclones added a third period tally from Scott Reynolds at 6:41.
Marsters stopped 43 of 48 shots in his second start as a Wheeling Nailer. He faced 52 shots against the Cyclones in his debut on Saturday. Grumet-Morris made 16 saves for his 10th win of the season.
The Nailers return home for a weekend series with the Elmira Jackals. On Friday the first 2,500 fans will receive Pittsburgh Penguins' Collectors cups. A food drive will also be held to benefit Wheeling area soup kitchens. Fans that bring a non-perishable food item receive $2 off the ticket price. On Saturday the Nailers will give away Santa mini-bobbleheads to the first 2,500 fans. Both games will begin at 7:35pm. To place a ticket order call 304-234-GOAL or visit www.wheelingnailers.com.
