Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President & General Manager Craig Brush, along with Head Coach Gerry Fleming announced today goaltender Kevin Nastiuk has been assigned to the club by the Carolina Hurricanes from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League.
Nastiuk joins the Everblades after skating in four games with the River Rats this season where he posted a perfect 4-0-0 record with a goals against average of 1.20 and a .959 save percentage. The assignment marks the return to the Everblades for Nastiuk, who suited up for Florida during his rookie season in 2005-06. The 4th round draft pick by the Hurricanes in 2003 split his rookie season between Lowell and the Everblades that season beginning the year with the Lock Monsters and posting a record of 1-7-3 with a 3.45 GAA and an .887 save percentage in 11 games before joining the Everblades.
The native of Edmonton, Alta. closed out the 2005-06 regular season with a record of 13-4-2, a 2.52 GAA and a save percentage of .924 in 20 games with the Everblades. Nastiuk also saw action in three Kelly Cup Playoff games that year, going 1-0.
Last season the 22-year-old was with the Everblades in training camp, but did not play in a game before he was re-called to Albany and then re-assigned to Las Vegas of the ECHL. Nastiuk spent the remainder of the season in Las Vegas, playing in 32 games and compiling a record of 16-8-6 with a 2.54 GAA and a .915 save percentage.
Prior to turning pro, Nastiuk spent four years in the WHL with the Medicine Hat Tigers where he compiled a career record of 43-28-13 in 171 games. In 2003-04, Nastiuk backstopped the Tigers to the WHL title and a trip to the Memorial Cup.
