Awe Returns to Gwinnett from AHL Houston
December 19, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that defenseman Jon Awe has been reassigned to Gwinnett from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League.
Recalled to Houston on November 17th, Awe has appeared in 14 games with the Aeros where he has notched 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 points. His one marker was a game winning power play goal for Houston on December 1st against Grand Rapids.
Prior to being called up to the AHL, Awe notched 7 points on the season with 2 goals and 5 assists in 11 games with the Gladiators and ranked second on the team in scoring by a defenseman.
It was Awe's fifth stint in the AHL after spending parts of the 2005-06 season with both the Portland Pirates and Providence Bruins as well as splitting time between the Chicago Wolves and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season.
In 60 games with the Gladiators in 2006-07 Awe set an ECHL record among defensemen with 19 power play goals, leading the Gladiators to a league record in that category with 120 power play goals on the year.
Awe should be available for the Gladiators for Thursday's 7:05 p.m. tilt against the Charlotte Checkers at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena.
The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season on Thursday, December 20th as they travel to Charlotte to take on the Checkers at 7:05 p.m. Catch all the play-by-play action in Thursday's game on WDUN, News Talk 550.
Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
The Gwinnett Gladiators continue their fifth season as a proud member of the ECHL - season ticket packages are on sale now. In addition, the Gladiators offer several unique multi-game ticket packages as well as discounted group rates, suite rentals, and birthday parties.
