Wheeling Nailers News Release

The Wheeling Nailers, AA affiliate for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced a trade with the Trenton Titans, effective immediately. Trenton has sent defenseman Jordon Southorn and forward Peter Lenes to Wheeling, in exchange for future considerations.

Southorn, 21, is in the midst of his second professional season, with both seasons taking place in the ECHL. The former fourth round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres played in 258 career games in junior hockey with the QMJHL's PEI Rocket, scoring 27 goals, 78 assists, and 105 points, while accumulating 279 penalty minutes. Last season, the Montreal, QC native turned pro, picking up nine assists and 38 penalty minutes in 35 games with the Trenton Devils. So far this season, Southorn has played in 28 games with the Titans, recording six goals, ten assists, 16 points, and 29 penalty minutes, while also earning a two-game stint in the AHL with the Providence Bruins.

"We are fortunate to get Jordon here," said head coach Clark Donatelli. "He is a really solid defenseman, he's good on the puck, and will be good to have on the power play."

Lenes, 25, is also in the midst of his second professional season in North America, with both seasons taking place in the ECHL. Before turning pro, Lenes spent four seasons at the University of Vermont, scoring 46 goals, 46 assists, and 92 points in 148 games. In 2009-10, the Shelburne, VT native joined the Ontario Reign, picking up 13 goals and 23 points in 58 games. He then went across the ocean, playing one season for Graz EC in Austria, where he had ten goals and 20 points in 49 contests. Thus far this season, Lenes has appeared in 32 games with the Titans, scoring seven goals, five assists, and 12 points.

"Peter is going to bring a lot of energy and excitement to this team," Donatelli said. "He is a hard worker, and we are excited to get a player of his calibur," he said.

Southorn and Lenes will both join the Nailers immediately, and will both likely be in the lineup for Wednesday night's game against Toledo at 7:00. Both players will be wearing the same uniform numbers that they did in Trenton, with Southorn wearing #10, and Lenes wearing #13.
