Published on January 10, 2012 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - Dustin Gazley of the Elmira Jackals is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Jan. 2-8.

The 23-year-old forward scored three goals, added three assists and was a +3 last week as the Jackals went 3-0-0 to extend their team record winning streak to nine games. Elmira leads the Eastern Conference with an overall record of 23-11-0 for 46 points.

Gazley scored a goal in a 3-2 win against South Carolina on Friday and then tallied a career-high four points (1g-3a) in a 4-1 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday. He ended the week with a goal in a 4-3 shootout win against the Cyclones on Sunday.

A native of Novi, Mich., Gazley is second on the Jackals, and third among ECHL rookies, with 32 points (9g-23a) in 34 games. His 23 assists pace first-year players, and are tied for fifth overall in the league.

Gazley played four years at Michigan State University, scoring 73 points (30g-43a) in 153 games. He made his pro debut last season, appearing in two games with the Greenville Road Warriors.

On behalf of Dustin Gazley, a case of pucks will be donated to an Elmira youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 25,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
