Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, AA affiliate for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are announcing a pair of roster moves, with both being effective immediately. Forward Cody Chupp has been loaned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, while forward Brian Day has been assigned to the Nailers from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Chupp, 26, joined the Nailers on November 9th, after registering two assists in six games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to begin the season. The Ferris State University graduate had an immediate impact on Wheeling, as he netted a goal in three of his first four games, and five of eight games in November. Chupp currently has the third highest point-per-game average on the roster, as his 0.79 trails only Chris Barton (1.17) and Paul Crowder (0.93). In 24 games with the Nailers thus far, Cody has nine goals, ten assists, 19 points, and a plus-8 rating.
Day, 23, is entering his first full season of professional hockey, after spending the previous four years at Colgate University. In four seasons with the Raiders, the Danvers, MA native appeared frequently on the scoresheet, scoring 54 goals, 56 assists, and 110 points in 161 games. Day's junior season was his most productive, as he posted 21 goals (team-high) and 36 points in 34 contests. Prior to attending college, Day entered the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, and was selected in the sixth round by the New York Islanders. After graduating, he played in ten games with the Islanders' AHL affiliate (Bridgeport), scoring two goals, three assists, and five points.
The Nailers will be back in action on Wednesday night, when they play host to the Toledo Walleye at WesBanco Arena, with opening face-off scheduled for 7:00.
